Canal Street, the Central Business District, and the Vieux Carre, ca. 1947. The photograph appears to have been taken on or about Mardi Gras; floats are visible on Canal Street, and aircraft carriers are typical visitors to the Crescent City during the Carnival season. This is one of a number of aerial photographs donated to New Orleans Public Library in 1999 by Richard B. Taylor of Las Vegas. While on a business trip to the city Mr. Taylor chartered a private plane for a aerial tour; he shot the photographs from that plane.
