Chung Fat Platform

We assume that the Chung Fat shrimp drying platform was also located at Manilla Village--or at least nearby.
Betsy Swanson's description of a typical platform fits this photograph well:
Like other platforms, the village consisted of crudely constructed buildings huddled about the platform and stretched out over the marsh on pilings. Plank walkways to which boats tied up connected all the storehouses, homes, and bunk houses in the village. [Historic Jefferson Parish: From Shore to Shore, p. 138]
Manilla Village was abandoned after hurricane Betsy in 1965. Here, however, the platform bustles with activity, people--and dogs.
