Fire Department

Photograph #570
(Printed caption attached, source unknown) "The Watch Tower. While normally it is easy to spot firement at work, during Mardi Gras a lot of their involvement is behind the scene. The fire department's Training Division maps each parade. That's Chief John Riviere's job, pictured center. A parade coordinator, Captain Anthony Turley (l), and a communications officer, District Chief Wayne Kerth, monitor the parade's movement, providing on-the-scene reports. This gives the fire department enough flexibility to determine where to stop a parade if an emergency warrants it, and where to direct the engines."
