Chase at work at WDSU-TV, ca. 1967

In 1964, John Chase was invited by WDSU-TV to become the first editorial cartoonist of U.S. television. In 1967, the journal Television Quarterly printed an article on "this imaginative approach for getting New Orleans citizens involved with the world in which they must think and act." The article includes photographs illustrating the process of putting a cartoon on the screen, inlcuding this one showing cameramen taping Chase signing his cartoon on the air -- the "standard 'sign-off' for WDSU-TV's daily Editorial Cartoon."
