| This photograph of former heavyweight boxing champion Rocky Marciano with NOPD Officer Jimmie Lacava, also known as Jimmy Perrin, the featherweight boxer from New Orleans, was taken for the New Orleans Item on August 23, 1957. Marciano was in town for the Jefferson Punch Bowl, an amateur boxing show held annually at Kenner Stadium for a number of years in the 1950s (the 1957 Bowl took place at Jefferson Stadium). The champ refereed the main event of the boxing gala. Thanks to retired NOPD officer Willie Patin for identifying Jimmie Lacava/Perrin and the site of the 1957 event. |
