St. Aloysius v. Holy Cross, City Park Stadium, November 16, 1941.

Some 8000 supporters watched this gridiron battle between two Catholic high school rivals in 1941. The excitement of the game was hightened by the fact that it was the last game played by St. Aloysius's star player, Johnny Campora. The Times-Picayune's sports writer couldn't say enough about Campora's skills: "he was a lad who could do anything with a football. He kicked off and he punted and he made extra points. He ran, he passed, and he backed up the line. He blocked and he broke up interference. And, what's more, he was as spirited a competitor as you'll ever find." (Sounds like someone the Saint's could use!) St. Aloysius won that game, 18-0.
