| Images of the Month Gallery May 1999 | ||
| This month we bring you an additional 11 images from the Louisiana Division's
WPA Photograph Collection, chosen from among the 7000+ negatives that make up the bulk of the collection. These
photographs represent several projects conducted by the WPA in New Orleans: the creation of an air raid map for the
city, the construction of the Naval Reserve Air Base on the Lake Pontchartrain shore, the creation of educational
exhibits, various projects relating to public records, and archeological digs.
Information about some of the photographs was taken directly from the identifications supplied by the WPA staff itself (probably by the WPA's publicity arm). For some photos, additional research was necessary to complete the captions. The images presented here are samples from our continuing project to scan the WPA negatives and to create a database cataloging the images.
