Pontchartrain Park was Brand New

Pontchartrain Park subdivision opened in the mid-1950's, offering new homes to African Americans in the still segregated city. The subdivision, built on 200 acres near Lake Pontchartrain, was adjacent to Pontchartrain Park itself, a public park built by the city for the use of its African American citizens.
