Gasper Cusachs (1855-1929) was a local contractor who built railroads, canals and roads in Texas, Mexico and elsewhere and served as a member of the Orleans Parish School Board and the Board of the Louisiana State Museum. He was also a charter member of the Public Belt Railroad Commission and president of the Louisiana Historical Society. Appropriately, his personal bookplate incorporates elements of the Louisiana state seal. Ex Libris, of course, is Latin for "from the library of" and has come to be synonymous with the word "bookplate."
