When the Louisiana Jockey Club took over the Creole Race Course (now the Fair Grounds) in 1871, it also purchased this mansion nearby at 1436-38 Leda Street. The "Luling mansion," built in 1865 for Florence A. Luling, served as the racing organization's club house. The building still stands today, used as apartments.
