Cotton Sampling Department, William B. Thompson & Co. (1912)

This interesting shot shows the offices of William B. Thompson, described in Behrman's 1912 book as one of the city's "best-known cotton factors." Thompson was President of the New Orleans Cotton Exchange for four terms and his firm, established in 1859, was one of the oldest in the South. The photograph gives a glimpse into a time when cotton was still king in the Crescent City.
