This closer view of Canal Street reveals dozens of businesses and structures that are no longer part of the Crescent City scene. The Saenger and the Loews are no longer movie palaces, Woolworth's is gone altogether, the Maison Blanche building is now a luxury hotel, Regal beer, Harry J. Spiro's real estate empire and the National Food Store chain are long gone, as are the street cars and palm trees on the neutral ground, and the Mississippi is no longer visible at the foot of Canal.
