Thanks to a generous grant to the Louisiana Division from the Mary Freeman Wisdom Foundation (through the Friends of New Orleans Public Library), we are able to bring you this month a series of oversized images from our photograph collection. The $3000 Wisdom Foundation grant allowed us to purchase a scanner capable of scanning images up to 12" x 17", which will make it possible for us to digitize the collection of several hundred large photos that our older, smaller scanner could not accommodate. The grant also funded the purchase of two external hard drives for storing and backing up digital images, several licenses to Adobe Photoshop CS (a big upgrade from our old Photoshop 5!) and a Hewlett Packard portable scanner, which will make it possible for us to scan and "stitch" even larger maps and drawings.
