Images of the Month Gallery
January 2004

The Sugar Bowl has been played in New Orleans for 68 years, first in Tulane Stadium and later in the Louisiana Superdome. Since it was inaugurated in 1935 by the Mid-Winter Sports Association, the football game and its attendant festivities have always generated excitement (and revenue for the city), but this year's game will be especially memorable for Louisianians, as LSU battles Oklahoma for the college football championship. In honor of the Sugar Bowl, this month's gallery is made up of covers from past Sugar Bowl programs, including the program for the very first game in 1935. (We've also included the scores of the games represented by the covers.)
