The Sting Unseen

"This allegory described a lady fair who walked pensively on flowers with robes as of snow and gold woven together. From the waist above she was shrouded with a cloud, while a stinging serpent held her by the heel, "wherewith she languished as the gathered flowers," all tending to show that bitter grief and sorrowful annoyance beset what the heart is ofttimes bent on, and that life is tossed with the storms of a variable fortune."
