Mecca organized in 1960. The krewe began parading in 1968 and,
for a while at least, took part in the celebrity guest craze--daredevil
Evil Kneivel served as parade marshall in 1977. The group disbanded
following the 1978 carnival season but enjoyed a brief revival in
association with the Krewe of Sparta in 1981.
