Our third selection of images from the Dorothy Violet Gulledge
Collection includes 35mm color slides taken thirty years ago at six
carnival balls attended by the photographer. These images provide a look
inside the "private side" of the Crescent City' s annual carnival
season--the masked balls held by dozens of organizations at the Municipal
Auditorium and other venues around town. Indeed, of the six krewes
represented here, only two--Mecca and Pandora--paraded in public on the
