Images of the Month Gallery
February 1999

Our third selection of images from the Dorothy Violet Gulledge Collection includes 35mm color slides taken thirty years ago at six carnival balls attended by the photographer. These images provide a look inside the "private side" of the Crescent City' s annual carnival season--the masked balls held by dozens of organizations at the Municipal Auditorium and other venues around town. Indeed, of the six krewes represented here, only two--Mecca and Pandora--paraded in public on the streets of New Orleans.
