December 7 (p. 5)
The Times-Democrat's Doll and Toy Fund provided a means for New Orleanians to donate money to be used for the purchase of Christmas presents for the poor children of the Crescent City. Among the 1907 donors were a young future journalist/historian Charles L. "Pie" Dufour ($1), J. T. Gibbons ($10), "Peter Pan and Tinker Bell" ($2), and Don Juan Norvell, bull terrier (80 cents "collected from his friends"). The Doll and Toy Fund remains very active and effective a century after those gifts!
