Images of the Month Gallery
December 1999
Ethel Willia Perkins (1871-1968) was a high school chemistry teacher in New Orleans. In 1957 she gave a small collection of papers to the Library. Among the donated materials is a scrapbook of Chinese greeting and Christmas cards. Miss Perkins had visited China in 1937 and apparently had relatives living in Shanghai. The cards may have come from those relatives or through her own work with relief organizations working in China.

The Christmas cards are both unusual and charming. Together, they make for a perfect Images of the Month Gallery as we head into the 1999 Christmas season. We hope you enjoy them.

Happy Holidays!
