The Gregg House, a hotel, stood at 150-154 Canal Street (now in the 800 block) during the period of the World's Industrial and Cotton Centennial Exposition in the 1880s. It advertised itself as "the most central house in the city," with a new building, new furniture, and "rates low as any." Other features of the hotel included its proximity to the best restaurants, "galleries accessible to all," elevators, a public telephone, and "parlors free to all occupants."
