    Post-Katrina information on New Orleans neighborhoods. The GNOCDC site also includes a number of very useful maps detailing available community resources: child care, public schools, after school programs, regional hospitals and clinics.
  • GulfGov Reports: Study of the Communities Damaged by the 2005 Hurricanes
    This joint project of the Nelson A. Rockefeller Institute of Government and the Public Affairs Research Council of Louisiana (PAR) will issue series of reports over the next three years on what federal, state, and local institutions are doing (or not doing) to improve and restore the living conditions of the people affected by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
  • Hurricane Digital Memory Bank
    The Hurricane Digital Memory Bank uses electronic media to collect, preserve, and present the stories and digital record of Hurricanes Katrina, Rita, and Wilma. George Mason University’s Center for History and New Media and the University of New Orleans, in partnership with the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of American History and other partners, organized this project.

    This is a Special Report (Senate Report 109-322) of the Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, United States Senate. The Committee's report sets out seven recommendations together with a series of supporting tactical recommendations, all designed to make the nation's emergency-preparedness and response system strong, agile, effective, and robust.

    The Corps of Engineers' risk assessment model designed to characterize current annual flood risk in the area. Downloadable, interactive maps (Google Earth is required to view the interactive data) show the possible extent of flooding in different sections of the New Orleans area if a major hurricane strikes in 2007.

  • Louisiana Business Recovery Grant and Loan Program
    The State of Louisiana's pilot initiative to provide financial relief to restart and sustain small and independent businesses in the areas of Louisiana impacted by hurricanes Katrina and Rita. The financial relief, grants and no-interest loans, is particularly geared to businesses experiencing depressed revenues since the storms.

    The online version of the State's 2007 hurricane evacuation guide includes maps of statewide evacuation routes, the Metro New Orleans contraflow plan (plus detail maps of contraflow entry points to I-10 and I-12), as well as evacuation and shelter information.

    A report by the American Society of Civil Engineers Hurricane Katrina External Review Panel. The report focuses on the direct physical causes and contributing factors to the hurricane protection system failures during Hurricane Katrina.

    The New Orleans City Council hired Lambert Advisory LLC and SHEDO LLC to help develop reconstruction plans for 50 neighborhoods heavily flooded by Hurricane Katrina. The plans will recommend reconstruction strategies and a redevelopment vision for each of these neighborhoods.

The site's "Address Search" provides information about essential and non-essential services located within a mile of your address. Everything from blighted properties and damage assessments to street conditions and calls for service are available through the address search. You can also find out the Council district, zoning district, planning district, and flood zone for a specific address.

  • Team Louisiana report on the Federal levee system failures
    Following the failure of levee systems in the New Orleans region, "federal agencies and national organizations mounted investigations into the causes behind the failures. On behalf of the state of Louisiana, DOTD Secretary Johnny B. Bradberry commissioned a team of Louisiana scientists to gather and document all available data relevant to the failures. This team became known as 'Team Louisiana.' This link will lead you to "Team Louisiana's" findings.
  • Unified New Orleans Plan
    The Unified New Orleans Plan (implemented under the auspices of the New Orleans Community Support Foundation (NOCSF), which was established by grants from the Rockefeller Foundation and the Greater New Orleans Foundation) is intended to create a single city-wide recovery and rebuilding plan, which is required by the Louisiana Recovery Authority (LRA) to release certain federal funds. The city-wide infrastructure plan will encompass all neighborhood and planning district plans and will be reviewed by the City Planning Commission, submitted to the City Council and Mayor Nagin for approval, and forwarded to the LRA for a final review and request for recovery funding.

The effort is made possible by the offices of Governor Kathleen Babineaux Blanco and Lt. Governor Mitch Landrieu, the Louisiana Board of Regents and the Points of Light Foundation, in conjunction with other national and statewide organizations that have partnered to support and encourage citizens, businesses and non-profit organizations in Louisiana and across the country to join the rebuild movement.
