Shafe to the Grand Jury, accusing Mooney, who was Judge of the Fourth Recorder's Court, with calling him a son of a bitch and punching him in the face outside Rooney's saloon on Patterson Street.

Criminal District Court 0 State vs J. T. Massey 1891 Documents from an envelope (with Clerk's Office, Criminal District Court as the return address) marked, "J. T. Massey, #1219_" Includes items from the Pullman's Palace Car Co.--passenger checks, porter checks, occupancy reports, and form no. 19s. Massey is indicated on the items as a conductor. The items have information about berths, including names of some passengers, on routes between St. Louis and New Orleans during 1889-1891. Discrepancies between the conductor and ticket agents appear to be at least part of the issue at hand.

1896 Act of sale, tax bills, tax receipts, and a fire insurance policy for a house on Force Street between Elysian Fields and Frenchmen Streets. Jane Holloway was the owner. Notes on the documents indicate that they were filed as evidence by the state. They were signed by A. J. Desmond, clerk of Criminal District Court. The number 2648 also appears on one of the items.

1924 Documents from an envelope with Clerk of Criminal District Court's return address and marked, "Special Petty Jury ordered, May term, 1924." Included is an extract from the minutes of the court, May 5, 1924 listing names drawn from the jury wheel but not found by the Sheriff. Also included is another extract, dated May 15, 1924 commanding the jury commissioners to draw a Special Petty Jury of seventy-five persons. Also included are two copies of the jury list for the May 1924 term.

1924 Documents from an envelope with Clerk of Criminal District Court's return address and marked, "Special Petty Jury ordered for January 1924." Included is an extract from the minutes of the court, January 7, 1924 listing persons not found by the Sheriff and otherwise removed from the jury wheel. Also included is another extract, dated January 7, 1924 commanding the jury commissioners to draw a Special Petty Jury. Also included is a handwritten list of names not found, moved, and out of the city. Also included are twenty-three individual jury notices with names and addresses and, in some cases, notes such as "excused," etc.

Criminal District Court 222 State vs Bertha Washington 1918 Charged with the murder of Bertha Butler. Documents from two envelopes, one from the Coroner's Office marked, "PV of Bertha Bell, #222" and the other marked, "Fourth, December 31, 1916, State vs Bertha Washington (colored), murder, abandoned, April 30, 1918." Includes the homicide report, December 31, 1916; proces verbal of autopsy, December 31, 1916; and statements of three witnesses.

Envelope (with the Coroner's Office for a return address) marked, P-V of Walter Lewis, #289, State vs Robert Green, murder." Includes a letter from the District Attorney, March 1, 1918, to the Judge of Second City Criminal Court, suggesting the amount of bail to be required. Also includes the Coroner's autopsy protocol, February 18, 1918. Also includes an envelope containing the 38 caliber bullet found in the body of Lewis. Also includes the following documents found in an envelope from the District Attorney's Office: homicide report, February 18, 1918; supplemental homicide report, February 19, 1918; and signed statements of Green and three witnesses.

Criminal District Court 1496 State vs J. P. Wall 1891 Includes documents from First Recorder's Court #1523, State vs James A. Speirs. Speirs was accused by Wall of malicious trespass in the town of Tangipahoa and with fleeing from the town to avoid prosecution. The affidavit in that case shows that Speirs was discharged. Also included is a telegram from Wall asking the Chief of Police in Tangipahoa to hold Speirs (as an absconding debtor) until he (Judge Wall) arrives by train. Apparently, the documents were used as evidence in prosecuting Wall for false imprisonment and perjury (they were in an envelope marked, "#1496, J. P. Wall, false imprisonment & perjury).

Included is a manuscript copy of the articles of incorporation for Union Sons Relief Association of Louisiana (1880). Also included: report on the organization's finances (1880-1884); agreement for payment of promissory notes (1880); manuscript minutes of the organization's meeting of February 18, 1884; a printed act of incorporation for the organization (1870); and a printed advertisement of a "Reward Contest" at the organization's hall, 128 Perdido Street, November 24, 1883.

Criminal District Court 29471 State vs Thomas Jones 1899 Fragment. Information for inflicting a wound less than mayhem, etc. He plead not guilty, but the jury convicted him as charged. Also included are two registered mail receipts. The items were in an envelope marked with her name, the case number, and the note, "nol prossed."

Criminal District Court 44610 State vs Loretta Fritz 1916 Order to deliver a watch and chain to James Hamilton. Also includes a note regarding an apparent earlier court case (First City Criminal Court #39613) involving Fritz and Sophie McClaw in 1915 and their sentences of ninety days each. The latter is written on the reverse of a wanted poster, with photos, for Andries W. Staples.

Criminal District Court 48615 State vs Joseph August alias Suit Case 1920 Letter from August in "Parish Jail" asking for the return of property (clothing and cash) taken from him by police. Also included is a court order for the property to be returned, accompanied by a list of the items at issue and a receipt signed with August's mark. He was imprisoned for breaking and entering in the day time and grand larceny.
