Each and every member of the Friends plays a vital role in supporting the New Orleans Public Library, one of our community's most valuable resources. By joining us, you can share in this commitment...and in the many benefits of membership. Please read on to find our how easy - and rewarding - it is to become a Friend of the New Orleans Public Library.

The Friends of the New Orleans Public Library was established in 1957 to mount a campaign to build the current central library building. In the past four decades, the Friends have raised funds for books and many other needs, encouraged public support of bond issues and increased awareness of the library's value to our community through events and activities. Annually, the Friends provide funding for:
  • Scholarships enabling dedicated staff member to pursue advanced librarian degrees
  • Book purchases
  • Activities and performances encouraging children to read
  • Author appearances
  • Promotional campaigns for the Library
  • Black History Month
  • National Library Week
  • Summer Reading Club
AS A FRIEND OF YOUR LIBRARY, YOU WILL RECEIVE:
  • Book Sale Bucks for use at all Friends of the NOPL Book Sales
  • Free admission to Book Sale Previews
  • Footnotes, the NOPL newsletter featuring Friends' Notes
