Facts About Borrowing Materials from NOPL

Borrowing Facts:

  • New Orleans Public Library cards may be used at all New Orleans Public Libraries
  • Patrons with Adult, Student and Kids' Club cards may borrow up to 20 items at a time
  • Video materials may be checked out on Adult cards
  • Materials returned after the due date will be charged overdue fines

Loan periods:

  • Books . . . 3 week loan (limit 20)
  • Popular Reading Books . . . 2 week loan
  • Audio Books . . . 3 week loan (limit 5)
  • CDs . . . 3 week loan (limit 5)
  • Audio Cassettes . . . 3 week loan (limit 5)
  • Videocassettes and DVDs . . . 7 day loan (limit 3)

Renewing Items:

Patrons may renew materials by calling any New Orleans Public Library during business hours or online at our website nutrias.org

Overdue Fines:

  • Books, CDs, and audio cassettes:
    Adult cards . . . 25¢ per item/per day
    Student cards . . . 10¢ per item/per day
    Kids' Club cards . . . 5¢ per item/per day
  • DVDs & VHS tapes . . . $2.00 per item/per day
  • Paperbacks with no barcode . . . no fine

Metropolitan Library Resource Sharing:

Patrons with New Orleans Public Library cards in good standing may also borrow materials from Jefferson Parish Public Libraries (and vice versa!).

Due to the damage inflicted by Hurricane Katrina on neighboring library systems, we are offering free library cards to St. Tammany, St. Bernard and Plaquemines Parishes as well.
