First Annual Tom Dent Forum African American Resource Center November 13, 1999 Native son Tom Dent was the focus of a forum presented by the New Orleans Public Library's African American Resource Center on Saturday, November 13, 1999 at the Main Library. The Annual Tom Dent Forum will be a living memorial to Dent as a mentor to southern, African American writers. Guest speakers Lolis Edward Elie, Chakula cha Jua and Dr. Henry C. Lacey highlighted Dent's life and work as a civil rights activist, poet, playwright and writer. The event was made possible by the Friends of the New Orleans Public Library.
