HONORABLE MENTION
Black Love
by Freddie Castello, III of New Orleans, LA
Good morning black love
It's truly a blessing too see you
After all that we've been through
You have withstood the test of time
Black love, one of a kind
the culmination of pleasure and pain
And through it all, Great songs you would always sing
Not once did you bend
Sell your culture or your pride
Still we stand, Black love, side by side
Our future is truly the crown
Won't let hatred, keep us down
Often there were, those times Black love
Society would take us, try and break us
Break us apart, but they made us
Oh so strong, Strong in heart
Such a joy to behold, the truth,
Let the story be told
Let the future, the kids be taught
Never to give up, Live up
to the black greats of the past
Black love that's meant to last
And the tears will flow, as we look in each other's eyes
For all that we've shared, the strength inside
