January 17, 2002

New Orleans Public Library's celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday, our annual kickoff to Black History Month, was held at the Main Library on January 17.

This year's observance of Black History Month pays tribute to the poet Langston Hughes, on the 100th anniversary of his birth.

The program featured as keynote speaker local actor, journalist and businessman James B. Borders IV and a performance by the McDonogh 35 Senior High School Drama Ensemble.
