Genealogy Workshop

Members of the Multicultural Genealogical Research Society presented a workshop for those researching their African American families at the Main Library, Saturday, February 16.

Some of the presenters included Debra Guidry (at podium), Donald Brown (seated, center), and Charlotte Brown (extreme right).

Marie Scott advises the audience to collect and save wedding and obituary programs for future genealogy use.

Some of the information presented and discussed included homestead documents, Civil War pension applications, slave schedules, slave manifest documents, and more.

Jacinta Hawkins talks to the audience about manumission records and other documents helpful to the genealogists in conducting family research.
