Vieux Carre Commission

New Orleans (La.) Vieux Carre Commission. Minutes, 1937-1972; 1978 --
These are typewritten minutes of the regular Commission meetings. They include references to individual applications for construction work in the Vieux Carre. In some instances the detail is not very great as, for example, in the May 11, 1943 reference to "application of the Southern Pine Association to make changes to the front of their premises, 537 Bienville in accordance with a plan submitted, was approved."
(AS300 1937-1972 mf; OVF AS301 1978 -- )

New Orleans (La.) Vieux Carre Commission. Minutes of the Architectural Committee, 1978 --
Similar to the above series but often with more detailed reference to specific features of the work under consideration.
(OVF AS301a 1978 -- )

See here for information on building plans submitted for approval to the Vieux Carre Commission.

Vieux Carre Survey (1966)
Although the Vieux Carre Survey was not produced by the Vieux Carre Commission, but by researchers originally in the Tulane School of Architecture and later by the Historic New Orleans Collection, this is an appropriate place to discuss it briefly.

Anyone researching property in the French Quarter should consult the Survey before doing any other research. The Survey provides detailed information (including the chain of title) for all properties in the French Quarter. The original Survey is held by the Williams Research Center of the Historic New Orleans Collection. The Louisiana Division has microfilm copies of the survey as it existed prior to its acquisition by HNOC in 1966; the microfilm version is incomplete. HNOC has continued to completed and updated the original work done at Tulane; researchers can consult the microfilm in the Louisiana Division but should always consult the more complete version at HNOC as well.

The Collins C. Diboll Vieux Carre Digital Survey, an electronic version of the Vieux Carre Survey created by The Historic New Orleans Collection, is now available online. (TU-1200 mf)
