The State Library of Louisiana is currently providing access to a number of subscription-only
databases through the Louisiana Library Connection. These databases may be accessed in-
house by any users of New Orleans Public Library and its branches (and, in fact, from any public
library in Louisiana). A number of the databases can also be accessed remotely by Louisiana
public library card holders at lalibcon.state.lib.la.us. Two of these databases are particularly
useful to genealogists:
|
Newsbank provides full text access (including obituaries) to the New Orleans Times-Picayune
(1989-present), and several additional Louisiana newspapers, along with a number of papers from
other states around the United States. Newsbank can be used by any patron at any branch of
NOPL and is also available remotely to Louisiana public library card holders.

Ancestry Library Edition, an enhanced library version of the subscription database
Ancestry.com, provides access to federal census images and indexes and to a host of other
indexes. Ancestry Library Edition can be used only at the library. Those who want to use the
database at home must subscribe to Ancestry.com
