Building New Orleans: The New Orleans Business and Industrial
District
Formerly known as A-MID (the Almonaster-Michoud Industrial District), this 7,000 acre industrial
park in eastern New Orleans is home to several large manufacturing plants; city government is
working hard to attract additional industries to the area. Since 1979, the city has invested over $39
million in the development of the district's infrastructure. Over the next twenty years, new
development in the district is expected to generate $725 million in spending for the local
economy.

structure is now part of the Lockheed Martin Manned Space Center, the largest employer in the
District.
