The Louisiana Division's extensive Carnival Collection includes printed materials, float and costume designs, krewe favors, and other memorabilia generated by most of the active and historical Carnival organizations from the 1860s to the present. Many of the items in the collection have come to us over the years through donations. We continue to depend on such gifts from krewe members and their guests. If you would like to donate materials for the Carnival Collection please call Irene Wainwright at 596-2610 or send e-mail at iwainwri@gno.lib.la.us.
The collection of printed materials (invitations, admit cards, dance programs, ball/pageant programs) is currently being re-inventoried. As inventories of each krewe are completed, they will be added to this page. Currently, the collection of printed Carnival materials is divided into two series: the "prime" collection, containing the copy of each item considered to be in the best condition, and the "reserve" collection, duplicate copies of items in "prime." Only the "prime" items are included here. The "reserve" collection will eventually be merged with the prime and also re-inventoried.
For additional information on the Louisiana Division's Carnival Collection and on collections of Carnival material held elsewhere in New Orleans, see the Greater New Orleans Archivists Guide to Resources in New Orleans Repositories for the Study of Carnival in New Orleans.
