Mrs. McGinnis desirous of adopting a child and knowing Mrs. Weiser received from her a letter that such an infant was in her possession - but Mrs. McG. wishing a girl did not take it but wishing to see it properly cared for now makes this application to have it sent to an asylum.

09/11/1886 Sarah Cannon 243 Baronne St No Name 2 months old The name of mother supposed to be its Ella Dale, and living in Baton Rouge. She was confined at the house of Martha Hickman a colored midwife residing at 195 Magazine. The mother left the child with midwife about the middle of July promising to return but has not done so. It was then taken to 243 Baronne street by an unknown colored man and deposited $6.00 for care. The day locking up the room, the child being left on the bed, unknown party absented herself and has never returned. Sarah Cannon brings the child to City Hall saying she is unable to care for it. Sent this boy to the St. Vinct. Infant Asylum corner, Race & Magazine.

12/21/1886 Mrs. Mary Beldon Camp near St. Andrew, City Joseph Beldon 1 mo Father, Lewis Beldon, died March 2/86. Mother Mary Beldon having to seek employment from home is unable to procure work with care of her child on her hands. Sent to St. Vincent's I. O. Asylum, Race & Magazine.
