The Friends of the New Orleans Public Library was established in 1957 to mount a
campaign to
build the current central library building. In the past four decades, the Friends have raised funds
for books and many other needs, encouraged public support of bond issues and increased
awareness of the library's value to our community through events and activities. The
Friends have provided funding for:
- Scholarships enabling dedicated staff member to pursue advanced librarian degrees
- Book purchases
- Activities and performances encouraging children to read
- Author appearances
- Promotional campaigns for the Library
- Black History Month
- National Library Week
- Summer Reading Club
AS A FRIEND OF YOUR LIBRARY, YOU WILL

- Free admission to Book Sale Previews
- Footnotes, the NOPL newsletter featuring Friends' Notes
In addition, special premiums are offered for those who join the Friends at higher levels.
