For the most part, the records for each parish include conveyances, probate records, and marriages. Dates of coverage range from the early 1700’s to the early 1900’s, though indexing sometimes extends into the mid- to late-1900s. For some parishes, notarial records, donations and records involving various other legal matters were also filmed.

Note: The Louisiana Division’s copies of these GSU microfilms are restricted in that no photocopies can be made from them. This agreement had to be made in order to protect the parish courthouses from any loss in income derived from supplying copies of their records. Copies must be obtained from the courthouses of each individual parish.

Covering the present parishes of East Baton Rouge, East Feliciana, Livingston, St. Helena, St. Tammany, Tangipahoa, Washington, and West Feliciana, the volumes contain suits, deeds, marriage contracts, probate records, and every sort of legal document. Some notarial records in the last volume extend to the year 1816.
