Newcomb College Center for Research on Women (at right) From the Krewe of Newcomus Ball, "a carnival dormitory dance where half the girls became perfect genetlemen."
The Newcomb College Center for Research on Women is located in Caroline Richardson Building
on Newcomb Place. The Center functions as the official archive of H. Sophie Newcomb College of Tulane University,
and also maintains a wide range of materials on women's education and experiences.
Within the large oral history collection is information on Olga Peters, a Newcomb graduate of 1920 who
designed Mardi
Gras floats and "tableaux," which feature Carnival ball scenery and theatrical enactments. Other designers are mentioned
within the context of employment of women in Carnival.
The Newcomb Photograph Collection also contains images of Mardi Gras balls held at Newcomb from 1918 to
1948.
