Loyola University's Special Collections and Archives Department was founded in 1970 as a department of the University Library. The strength of its holdings are in Jesuitica, University records, and Catholic Educational documents.

Carnival-related items are among the Papers of Moon Landrieu, New Orleans mayor from 1970-1978. They include newsclippings, correspondence with visitors, and reports to the mayor.
